Plant & Food Research’s network of orchards and farms have a central role in enabling us to undertake field research and work with our partners to develop the cultivars required to ensure the ongoing success of New Zealand’s horticultural industries. Our dedicated field teams work closely with our science staff to support a wide range of research projects.

As a member of our field services team, you’ll contribute to the efficient and safe operation of our research farm, with an emphasis on providing land preparation, crop planting, maintenance and harvesting support. Working closely with the Farm Manager, you’ll also contribute to all aspects of health and safety management and accept this as an important and integral part of the job. You’ll also support health and safety systems and operating practices for the site by being pro-active on any health & safety matter that helps to ensure our field site operates safely.

You’ll have proven practical experience, skills and ability in agriculture, horticulture, plant breeding or related fields together with experience in best practice health and safety management in field-based work environments. You must be physically fit and willing to work outside in all weathers with excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail. You’ll have a mechanical aptitude and be skilled in operating tractors and other farm machinery including a range of small plot machines for experimental science and breeding. A full drivers’ licence is essential with a heavy traffic endorsement an advantage.
