Civil/Structural Maintenance Engineer

GRIT Engineering Ltd is a growing Engineering and Asset Management company based mainly at Marsden Point, Northland, in the oil and gas industry.

We are currently seeking an experienced Civil engineering/construction technician or maintenance engineer to join our highly skilled team. You will be assisting with developing maintenance and construction scopes from condition inspection reports, projects and asset management plans including some basic solution development, job packaging, planning and scheduling and managing a small maintenance work force, managing small projects, quality control monitoring, and ensuring client expectations are achieved. You must be a practical, “hands on” team member (we call it number 8 wire engineering), able to manage a multi-disciplined, high pressure environment. A good practical approach to maintenance problems and the ability to be able to find simple solutions and communicate these clearly to management and the workforce are critical skills required for this job. A high level of client consultation and liaison is also required, so excellent communication skills are as important as your technical skills. You will have an exemplary track record of being able to co-ordinate multiple priorities at the same time, while achieving a quality outcome.

The role would be on a large industrial site, with a large variety of projects - maintenance and new builds, marine, pressure equipment and supporting structures. Most of the work in this role would be related to drainage, reinforced concrete, steel structural repairs and coatings though there are also elements of earthworks, small scale roading, marine, bridges, industrial coatings, refractory lining etc. Experience in any or all of these fields is a benefit to applicants. You will be working closely with a very high performing multi-disciplined team of engineers, inspectors and contractors including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, corrosion and durability, coatings, insulation, refractory experts and specialists.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes to succeed in this position:


* New Zealand Certificate of Engineering, Diploma or construction Diploma or similar equivalent.

* A strong focus on Health and Safety

* Excellent people and communication skills

* Previous experience (ideally 3 years +) in civil/structural/coatings maintenance or construction management.

* Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills.

* A very practical background and approach to engineering problem solving.

* A reasonable understanding of the civil/mechanical construction industry, planning/scheduling and cost control.

* Great computer skills
