Job Description

Te Akau Racing is one of New Zealand’s leading stables and currently has a vacancy available based at Te Akau.

Te Akau Stud is situated at Te Akau, 45 minutes west of Huntly and Ngaruawahia. There are a small team of about ten that work here at the stud who all work together extremely well as a team.

We have an amazing equine farm manager who has broken in the yearlings for Te Akau Stud for some years now here at Te Akau Stud. . He is a very competent, very experienced breaker and a very good teacher and he requires an assistant to undertake breaking in of the yearlings.

This position is full time permanent or can be just for the breaking period which will be for five months approximately if that is a better fit for you.

We expect the successful candidate to have experience in the handling of and riding of thoroughbred race horses and yearlings. The role will assist with exercising horses on a daily basis and all related tasks e.g. hosing down, gearing up horses, removing gear etc. Your assistance with the breaking in, as required, is also part of this position. Whilst we prefer someone with experience at breaking in, this is not mandatory as the current breaker is keen to teach you.

There is the accommodation available for a single person.
