Job Description

This job will be amazing. You’ll be working with a well-known bull breeder and genetics pioneer. It is a hands-on role which forms an integral part of Whangara Global Genetics and is based on farm 20 mins north of Gisborne.

The nature of this role is very specialised while also involving elements that will come naturally to those who feel at one with land and animals. We need our animals managed in a non-stressful environment and this involves moving them around quietly and putting their welfare as the number one priority.

Our business revolves around animals and it is this that enables us to produce world class genetics (embryos and semen) for export around the world.

The role is a combination of farm work and office work. The farm work involves cattle and goats – moving, feeding, administering remedies, animal husbandry, monitoring weights and condition, and quarantine management;
while the office-based work involves accurate & detailed record keeping, computer work, liaising with vets & MPI, and working alongside clients.

Across both areas is a need to understand management principles and being able to apply these to the business on a day to day basis. If candidates can speak Mandarin (as well as English), this would be an added bonus.

Ensuring a foundation for success will involve candidates having a knowledge of animal remedies and drugs, a tertiary qualification in an animal related discipline, a background in farming or practical veterinary experience and the ability to build, manage and grow professional key relationships.

Candidates will have a good manner with animals and be confident in moving small herds of stock by hand. Dogs are not used.

A competitive remuneration package is offered, hours of work are a minimum of 40 hours per week, accommodation is available in Gisborne (suitable for a family) and a work vehicle is provided.

A job description and employment application form will be provided on request or in any case when applications are received.
