Job Description

The word "privacy" means different things to different people. The Privacy Commissioner works across business, government and the public to promote a culture in which personal information is protected and respected. 2019 will be an exciting year for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, with a new Privacy Act being passed into law.

The Office investigates complaints about alleged breaches of privacy, and examines practices, polices and new legislation for its effect on privacy. It has strong communications, education, and outreach functions.

We're looking for a Communications Adviser to work collaboratively to achieve the objectives of the Office by providing communications, marketing and outreach services.

This is a diverse role, encompassing:

* Writing for a range of channels, including articles, speeches, blogs, case notes, newsletters, pamphlets, website, social media and more
* Content development and management of the Office's Annual Report
* Event planning and co-ordination
* Media liaison
* Social media management
* Development of online resources
* Marketing and promotional activities

This role will suit a highly organised self-starter who has strong proven experience in drafting articles, speeches and other communications material, both informal and formal.

You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the writing skills to produce high-quality written material for a wide variety of audiences across a range of media.

You must have good judgement, strong organisational skills and a proven ability to work collegially to achieve common goals.

Familiarity with the effective use of social media as communications channels is an advantage, as is experience in managing publications and organising events, and working with the media. Video production skills would be an added advantage.
