Brownrigg Agriculture is a significant privately-owned farming operation in New Zealand. The Brownrigg livestock business pivots around lamb finishing along with significant Wagyu genetic / breeding and bull finishing programmes. The focus and efficiency of their procurement and marketing strategy sits at the very heart of their ongoing success.

Reporting to the GM Livestock, you will be managing the livestock procurement and marketing programmes and functions. You will be responsible for managing livestock contracts daily, ensuring well-aligned supply of both the volumes and classes needed to meet customer requirements. You must be a strong relationship builder connecting farm staff, livestock agents, market customers, and leading New Zealand meat processing companies.

Seasonal elements affect this role. In late spring through early autumn your focus will be on meeting customers and establishing forward contracts in marketing and procurement, along with looking at emerging industry trends, new technology, and strategic options for Brownrigg Agriculture livestock. Through late autumn, winter and early spring the role becomes heavily operational as store livestock purchasing swings into action, overlapping with contractual prime livestock supply to Meat Processing Companies as the season progresses.

This role will be one with a high engagement level. You will have to work quickly on the phone to build credibility, cement relationships and secure livestock at the right price and time. You are someone who can deal with a large rural and primary industry network in Hawke’s Bay and nationally. You will stay close to the ever-changing livestock markets and keep a level head in this dynamic environment.

To be successful here you must be commercially savvy, have strong analytical skills combined with a genuine ability to build relationships. You must have a rural affinity and ability to operate in a real-time environment. While office based, you will also be comfortable out and about on farms and in the yards and at certain times of the year, your evenings will see you in contact with farmers and stock agents around the country. We are flexible about your experience however an agri related degree and/or experience in farming, agri consultancy or livestock agency would be highly regarded. You must be able to master the variables associated with the livestock supply chain and your experience will demonstrate your sense of urgency, head for numbers and affinity with people.

It may suit a graduate with five plus years’ experience but could also be won by a proven livestock industry manager looking for change.
